My antenna stuff

🇩🇪 Diese Information ist auch verfügbar auf deutsch.

This page lists a few things concerning antennas.

hwg and short dipoles

The “hwg” concept is a proposal for people with not really enough space for good short-wave antennas. The letters are from German “hängen was geht”, which translates to “hang what fits”. The idea is to do just that (and to live with the consequences).

  • The German slides of an online presentation given 2025-01-07 as a PDF file, alternatively as Libreoffice-source. This file has been polished slightly since the original talk, but there’s no significant change in content.
  • Jupyter notebook rendered, which explains the concept and has many parameter studies and nice diagramms. I find the formatting of the code pretty crappy (it is what came in the Nikola box without me doing anything), but have not yet found the time to fix it.
  • Jupyter notebook, source if you want to play with it yourself or want a reading experience with better formatting. This hwg-antenna notebook is also used in the antenna_simulation_driver project’s showcase. There, the formatting problem and what you can do about it is explained in somewhat more detail.

Rediscovering the ZS6BKW

This is also a part of the project’s showcase: Repeat the search for a five-band antenna that Brian, then ZS6BKW, successfully completed some 40 years ago with today’s modern means.

Find the pertinent Jupyter notebook, as rendered version or source.
